Taking time to work over time

October 17th, 2007 at 09:11 pm

I had an opportunity to work an extra day on Thursday my "normal" day off. It was to work a fun senior fair at our place.
I overhead my boss saying they really needed extra help so I offered to come in. Then I promptly had to say I COULD NOT work! I forgot I have a delivery scheduled on Thursday! BUT I was glad I threw my name out to work extra hours! She knows I am a willing to come in and work if it worked with my kids and their activities. I have been working an extra 30 min each day. So far no one seems to care and they are willing right now to pay me.

I hear alot of girls at my work complain they need more money...yet when asked to work an extra day or stay a little longer....MAN OH MAN do they complain!!! I think we need to be a willing and ready team player as far as jobs are concerned. My job could be cut one day...who knows! So I have to develop the right working attiude NOW. I also am trying to have everyone at my workplace KNOW MY NAME! So the way to do that is to say HI to everyone, help them out or go the extra mile for someone each day. I feel it is important. I consider it a small part of job security. I also have learned to stop whinning and complianing to everyone. One gal is doing that right now...in fact she is trying to land an other job at a different place and she has been flaunting it in everyone's face. She has managed to tell my boss everything about the new job search! Is that NUTS or what? Never become that comfortable with bosses that you would discuss ditching the company openly in front of them. I think at this point the company may just fire her. Not good!
We need to be much wiser in business dealings. Even if you are a lowly housekeeper. If you do not have anything nice to say---well...you know....keep your mouth shut!

If you can work some overtime---it can add up money wise and it can help you get ahead at work.

If I could do overtime, I would! I'm exempt though. Oh well. However, I have finally convinced DH that I don't care how tired he might think he is - if he is offered overtime, TAKE IT! He's finally starting to understand (after 8 1/2 years) that HE needs to make some changes for the good of the household budget. Any extra OT really contributes to that!

I hear you about OT and being exempt. I am part time and so I can only work a little bit over my hours. Best to work OT while we are "young" as well. OT can really help with bills and expenses, or to sock away for savings. Good Luck and keep motivating your husband!
