Grateful for My Job

January 5th, 2008 at 03:01 am

I am very grateful I have a job. After watching the news tonight about how the job market is so "bad" I was really counting my blessings. I had two co-workers show bad attitude at work and I can only shake my head. One wanted to NOT work the day after Christmas. She did not feel like it I think. Many of the girls had the day off due to vacation days. She was not one of them...she threw an immature hissy fit and temper tantrum in front of the boss and left early without permission on Dec 26th and then called off "sick" the next day. Another gal who I like alot who is about 19....left work cause she did feel well. Well she neglected to tell anyone and she just left her broom and walked out the door. She left her jobs undone and unfinished. I am not sure what has happened to something called work ethics....but they seem to be sorely lacking in some people. I find that rather sad and prideful. Everyone can be replaced. Everyone has a fair shot at being fired or let go for this reason or that. Not every boss is a gem.....but yet not every one of us is a ...gem. You are gettting paid to work and work a way that benefits others.

So I am grateful I am working and for the most part things at work are pleasant and fulfilling. I am sure going to try hard not to be replaced or fired or let go or downsized. I am really going to try this year to a be a good upstanding worker.
I want to model good work ethics and good habits of the heart. I promised myself I would try to smile as much as possible at work. Some times I don't feel like it. When I do smile things seems to go better.

I like getting a paycheck and I like being employeed. It sure feels good.

Yup, I agree. For the most part I love my job. Certainly it has its share of problems but overall I am very lucky to be doing what I like. And it is about my only financial bright spot!

Stay motivated Ralph! You seem to have a good understanding of work ethics. Nice to be getting a steady paycheck isn't it? Have a good weekend.

I second that, I may complain about my job but I am very thankful. And to be honest I think the job market is going to get worst

Your co-worker left work because she felt well?

Yeah, I'm grateful about having a job too. I even like my job! And my bosses too! This is especially so seeing as how it could be in for rough times ahead, with job losses looming ahead....

Amen to that! I have been disappointed by not being able to get hired at any new jobs I have applied for. I know I am being picky, but it looks like that is not going to fly. Job market is too out of control, too many people need jobs. Scary.

Count me in as another who is grateful to have a job. It isn't glamorous, it doesn't pay much, and it isn't really interesting. But I like retail and I like the people I meet through it. Yep, I like my job! And since it helps pay the bills, I really like it a lot. Smile

    Hi Little Miss Sunshine
I have just spent about an hour reading your entire blog and at times my eyes filled with tears. You are so brave and strong. I too am a single mom and can identify with everything you have written about.
May you be blessed and surrounded by angels when times are tough.

We've lost over 15 servers in the past month, b/c they weren't happy with one thing or another.

I don't know about them, but I am perfectly happy making lots of money. Yes, things could change, but you will have problems no matter where you go.

I'm just happy I get a true day off this week!

In most places I've worked, if someone threw that kind of hissy fit and walked off the job withoutpermision, they'd be fired. They may have to learn that lesson the hard way at some point.

I, too, watched the news last night about how bad things are going...unemployment creeping up, more rumblings of recession.

I am very, very grateful i am starting a new job on Monday and not only that, it's an interesting job that pays well, so the first time i start feeling stressed or lazy or feeling like it's been a very long day, i'll remember that news cast and say 'thank you'.

I totally agree. I have a great job in a great environment, and still have many co-workers who feel "put upon" if they are asked to do minor things. "That's not my job," they say. I have had some really bad jobs in some really unfriendly places, so yes, I am grateful for my job now.

I've been on both sides - employee and supervisor. Its been my experience that if there's a choice between:

80% of job knowledge but wants to do the job and shows it
100% of job knowledge but maybe wants to do the job and shows it ...

    80% person wins every time.

baselle, I couldn't agree more. I've seen many very talented people who were just total PITAs to work with - totally not worth it IMO.
