Car Fun

April 24th, 2008 at 11:46 pm

Took my SUV in to my car repair buddy. He only had to do an oil change and change a tail light bulb. CHEAP!!! YAHOO! Took my sons car in as well....brakes seem very very bad. I will know more on Friday. He gave me a car to use to get back and forth....another HUGE BLESSING for this single mom.

Went to the credit union and closed my account that has had nothing in it for months and months.....it had $5 in it so I got that back. So $5 in my pocket.

Ate all meals at home today. Will need to get a few groceries soon.

What's the deal with food shortages?? All local news in my area getting all hyper over it and making it the lead story for tonight. I appreciate them creating histeria. Not sure I am ready to go to COSTCO and purchase (4) 25 pound bags of rice. I also don't belong there....so I am def. out of luck. What is this world coming too??? I am a bit confused. So many problems!!! can anyone say one good thing about the world they live in anymore?? Is everything based on gloom and doom??? Gee whiz. Everyone out there take a deep breath and smile from ear to ear. I am saying this as I look in the mirror....Be blessed Little Miss Sunshine and everyone else out there in bloggy land.

I know exactly what u mean re doom & gloom in media....

the key point to note is that doom & gloom sells papers/air time while happy uplifting stories don't.

Therefore, the average Mr & Mrs Soaps of this world have been told at varying times:

    they will burn in hell
Civil war is good for the country
They will be enslaved by Muslims
They will be enslaved by Communists
Al-Queda will kill them on their next plane trip.
Their neighbour is a potential mass-murderer.
They will drown in their beds due to global warming...
    etc etc

Having spent a summer in New York, I feel that the American government and media actually intentionally raise panic among their own people for their own purposes.

I am happy to see that you can see through this rubbish and realise we are all blessed on this side of the planet with MOUNTAINS of things to be thankful for.

Happy Friday Little Miss Sunshine !! :-)

I have been hearing a lot about food shortages but really have paying any attention. I believe it's happening in third world countries such as Haiti which has had this problem for years.

Thank you for combating the gloom and doom today! I don't know what the deal with rice is either. . . DH said something about the high cost of fuel because of that countries that export rice to us have slowed down or stopped exporting. Don't know where the facts are though - this is the way urban legends get started, LOL.

As for me, I'll just eat other grains and starches and be happy about it!

It is strange because we were talking about this very thing at work yesterday. I think the whole Costco/Rice thing probably started as they were getting fewer shipments right now because of gas prices and the media blew it up to the usual pestilence, famine, end of the world. My local Kroger has a sign that says they had had fewer banana shipments due to recent weather and would have more soon. Is the world going to end because I have to wait 2 weeks for decent bananas? No.

There was a story (report) from the UN recently stating that poorer countries that usually get food subsidies from other countries have seen a decrease in support recently (gas prices?) and that has caused a major problem because they have no room for shortages. I mean, that makes sense because when you have nothing already, shortages greatly impact your life.
I take everything I read/watch with a grain of salt. The media caters to people who believe everything they read and the angle in which it is presented.
